The news was impatiently awaited by Reunion customers : Air Austral will fly again to Bangkok during the upcoming southern winter holidays, from July 2 to August 21, twice a week. As before the line was interrupted due to a health crisis, on March 2020, connections will be provided by 787 Dreamliner. The company is not making any further progress on the continuation of its program in Thailand. Air Austral has also obtained the green light from the Malagasy authorities to also resume its service to Nosy Be from Reunion Island., twice a week in May then four times from June. The new Airbus A220s will be used on this line. Air Austral is still awaiting approval of its program for other regions of the Big Island (Fat, Diego-Suarez, Tuléar and Fort-Dauphin) by the Malagasy Civil Aviation. For now, it only serves Tananarive with four frequencies per week. From May 6, the company will also fly again to Chennai, once or twice a week, by Airbus A220. Only the road to China remains permanently closed, since the flights between Saint-Denis and Guangzhou that it marketed were operated by Air Madagascar. Renamed Madagascar Airlines, the Malagasy company still does not have long-haul planes and only flies to Tananarive by chartering planes and their crews to different companies.
