Distributed by Hortibel in Réunion, this eco-responsible litter is the first to be made entirely from recycled cardboard products. Once used, it can be used in compost.
Eco-responsible cat litter. Many were waiting for it. The Aimé brand from AgroBiothers Laboratoire is the first to offer it. The economic and environmental stakes are significant. Cat litter represents 65% in value of the French market for accessories and care for pets. ElleCs weighs 450,000 tonnes of final waste, i.e. ending up in landfill, or 3,5% of household waste ! The Reunion figures are not known but it is a safe bet that they are of the same order given the feline population of the island
Today, more than 90% of litter is made from non-renewable mineral materials, mainly based on imported clay or silica. The 10% of so-called plant litter, based for example on sawdust, are not from recycled materials.
Aimé is thus the first litter in Europe made 100% from recycling.
Biodegradable and recyclable
Aimé litter is made from unprinted recycled cardboard., so without ink. It comes in the form of cellulose fiber granules.. Its recycled raw material comes from the recovery of cardboard scraps, themselves made from 80% recycled cardboard. Added a natural adjuvant, sodium bicarbonate which neutralizes the bacteria responsible for bad odors. Aimé litter is distributed in 5 liter bags which are themselves 100% recyclable and reusable.. The litter can go into compost or incinerated household waste. (this method of energy recovery is not yet effective in Reunion, but should be eventually). In all cases, it is entirely biodegradable.
Responsible and practical litter
The benefits of Aimé litter for the animal and its owner are significant.. While absorbing three times its weight in liquid, its cellulose fibers allowing rapid drying give it a longer lifespan than conventional litter. Aimé is also healthier for the animal : made of calibrated and dusted pellets, it does not stick to the cat's paws and does not generate dust. Its odor stopper based on sodium bicarbonate is without toxic risk. It is compostable, but the agglomerated parts can be evacuated directly into the toilet.
