Roland-Garros airport welcomed 120,800 passengers in January 2021, figure down by 50,7% compared to January 2020. Most of the activity was concentrated on the mainland-Reunion axis. (103,508 passengers), which despite everything recorded a drop in traffic of 21% compared to the previous year.
On the Réunion-Mayotte line, operated by Air Austral but also Corsair since last December, activity remained sustained. 15,478 passengers were recorded in January between Saint-Denis and Dzaoudzi, i.e. a drop of 2,Only 2% compared to January 2020. Among the other regional lines which touched Saint-Denis before the start of the health crisis, only a few flights from Mauritius (284 passengers) and Antananarivo (279 passengers) took place.
Long-haul lines to China, India and Thailand remain closed. Since the end of January, significant restrictions once again apply to travel from or to Mayotte and mainland France, leading to an even greater decline in ridership on these lines : the figures for the month of February risk reaching their lowest level in a very long time.
Freight activity, even if it regresses by 10,6% in January (1,859 tonnes processed), is less impacted than passenger traffic. During the first month of 2021, imports decreased by 16,6% (1,285 tonnes) but exports (574 tonnes) have progressed by 6,3%, following on from an exceptionally good fruit export campaign at the end of 2020.
